How do you go with noise and neighbours with your boy? Do you put him away in a low box at night or are you lucky with him?

The honking noise SHE makes is very goose like...not very feminine at all must say happy_duck

Hi
Sorry sounds like a boy [smilie=18_13_1.gif] :-? . I has two neighbours one which lives up a hill doesn't hear any of my three rooster's crowing. The other neighbour live near but they have a rooster( a very noisy one too!) so they cant complain :-D
Roosters honk??? :?:
Thanks
Chooklover101
P.S. I put my rooster in a coop and duct tape the windows so he can't see the light in mornings. Works too! gluck.gif

SHE does stand very very tall and stands up to the wildbirds but the other hens bully her dreadfully..young cockerels do get bullied and often viciously by hens
so,if I got her in March thinking I was buying a bantam (think lady said that due to her hairy legs) chook legs not lady... MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA = the mental picture of those hairy legs on the 'lady' :-? sidesplit.gif [smilie=a_holycrap.gif] sidesplit.gif so she must have been tiny then....guessing must be six months old now at most...surely I would have got an egg by now... cockerels/roosters do not lay eggs
The honking noise SHE makes is very goose like... this is the pre-crowing noise - can make you laugh as it can sound like they have the sorest throat on the planet until one day loud and clear a crow is heard not very feminine at all must say happy_duck

even tho the second picture is excellent it doesnt fully show the saddle hackles clearly but does show the neck hackles starting to grow in - all indicators say a cockerel to me = expect the crowing to start in earnest soon
Australorp cross Langshan – yeah a possibility

# saddle and neck hackles on cockerels thinner than pullet feathers and tend to end in a V shaped point

Then i am packing my bags and moving in with Chicka-dee.....and taking my he-hen with me....it is such bad news as I am just getting used to being an empty nester on the human front now about to toss another one out into the cold, dark, lonely world out there...

Empty nester = easily solved – trade in Horace for a Henrietta > a confirmed Henrietta that is = a girl that is already laying those eggs so there is no doubt

Best news....well second best news....

Found a local breeder looking for a young male Australorp to cater to his ten girls after his last one turned savage......so looks like my gorgeous big fella will go to a good home after all...

Best news of course would have been if he laid an egg...but...not a bad end after all....
