OK, Ideas would be great here. This season for no reason at all both my goldens and ringnecks are eating their eggs. It is getting frustrating as I cant be there all the time to collect them, I have dense branches and raised nests that they use but someone is still going in or up there to eat any eggs that are layed. I am out of ideas, I was going to try golf balls to see if they get bored. I feed poulty mix and turkey pellets to my pheasants as well as any small parrot seed that falls to the ground.

Hi Mrpeabody,
Don't know much about Pheasant but do you give them egg shell grit -- I find with my chooks that if they start eating eggs it's because they are out of grit, so I have containers of grit in all my pens it seems to have helped. Good luck, regards,
Snowball :D :D :D

Hi Mrpeabody, yep Snowball is spot on, some Poultry will turn to eating eggs as a supplement for shell grit. If you are offering Shell Grit, then you can try "Egg Droppers" as you already have raised nests this will be quite easy for you (provided they are raised high enough) simple make a hole in the bottom of the nest JUST large enough for the egg to drop through. Under the hole place a container filled with straw or cotten wool, this will catch the egg as its laid. The egg will not brake because as you know they are laid soft and shell harden within a couple of minuites. This will also help brake the Pheasants habit of eating them as they can't get to the eggs. Make sure the container under the nest is deep enough so the offending bird can't reach the eggs before you.

Hope this helps?

Thanks

Thanks for the ideas guys, I do feed shell grit in with the feed. They have suddenly stopped eating the eggs thank goodness. I put in about 10 chook eggs in each run and they were overwhelmed and just stopped eating them. I am happy as pheasants are already in demand.
Once again thanks for the tips, that drop through nest sounds great, I'll have to remember that idea.

They seem to have stopped eating there eggs after the first week or 2, and now we are getting 4 eggs one day and 2 eggs the next from only four hens! so 2 must be laying every day! must have been all that egg they ate that makes them lay so well lol
